Warning! This post contains spoilers for The Platform 2.
This post contains descriptions of some of the most violent moments from The Platform 2.
Although The Platform 2 features many character death scenes, some of them are far more brutal than others. Like its predecessor, The Platform 2 sets the stage for its terrifying drama by featuring several violent sequences in its opening arc. While some of these early gruesome scenes play a crucial role in establishing the divides between the prisoners in the central vertical jail, others reveal the rules that govern the skewed food distribution within its walls.
In its ending moments, The Platform 2 ups the ante of its action and drama by increasing the intensity of the brutalities faced by its main characters. The character deaths either portray the lengths the prisoners will go to survive or serve as stark reminders of how the harsh realities of their environment have impacted their mental health. Since nearly every death in the Netflix horror movie holds narrative significance, it is worth examining how each compares to the rest.
8 Dagin Babi's Fall From Grace
The Anointed One's Ego Gets The Best Of Him
When the Barbarians unite to start a revolution against the Loyalists in The Platform, the Loyalists' leader, Dagin Babi, tries to weaken the Barbarians by ensuring no food reaches them. However, his plan backfires when the Barbarians resort to cannibalism to survive. Desperate to reestablish his rule, Dagin Babi wages war against the Barbarians by taking his army of men to their level in the pit. To his dismay, the war ends with both parties suffering catastrophic losses.

A famous painting of a dog is a key plot point in Netflix sequel The Platform 2, but how does this painting's themes connect to the story?

Ultimately, the Loyalist leader also succumbs to his injuries before Perempuan pushes his body down to the bottom of the pit. Dagin Babi's death is not exactly brutal but holds immense significance in the overarching narrative. It shows how his extreme communist methods in the pit ultimately led to his downfall. He liked to believe that his strict laws were promoting solidarity in the prison, but his death proved that his rule was primarily driven by ego and a mindless desire for power.
7 Trimagasi's Accidental Kill
History Repeats Itself For Trimagasi
In The Platform, Trimagasi reveals he landed in the central vertical prison after he threw a TV out of his window and accidentally killed a man. After he ends up sharing a cell with Perempuan in The Platform 2, Trimagasi joins her revolution against the Loyalists. Along the way, he also finds a romantic interest who sticks by his side until the Loyalists wage war on them. During the vicious showdown against the Loyalists, Trimagasi accidentally stabs his love interest with his kitchen knife. With this, history repeats itself after Trimagasi ends up accidentally killing another person.
6 Perempuan's Desperation To Survive
Perempuan Has A Brush With Doom
During the brutal war between the Loyalists and the Barbarians, one of the Barbarians, who Perempaun had previously spared, targets her. He tries to choke her to death while asking her why the Drowning Dog painting is so important to her. However, before he manages to kill her, Trimagasi passes his knife to Perempaun. Desperate to survive, Perempuan stabs the man in the neck with the knife, allowing her to break free from his grip and execute the final step in her plan to leave the pit.
5 Perempuan's Ultimate Sacrifice
Perempuan Finds Redemption In Her Death
Perempuan's interview with the Authority reveals that she willingly landed in the central vertical prison because she was guilty of being responsible for her boyfriend's son's death. She hoped to forgive herself and find redemption by keeping herself locked inside the prison. Towards the end of The Platform 2, she finds herself at a crossroads where she can either save the child at level 333 or find her way out of the prison. She eventually settles for the former and tries to save the child by taking him to the topmost level.
The Platform's director, Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, confirmed in an interview (via Digital Spy) that the lowest level of the pit does not actually exist. "Goreng is dead before he arrives, and that's just his interpretation of what he needs to do," he said.
However, before she can take him to level 0, she hits her head on the ceiling of level 333. Although the movie does not explicitly mention that she dies, she instantly starts losing a lot of blood, which implies she has made her ultimate sacrifice. With what follows, she ends up at a level below 333, which seemingly represents her own conscience after death. She also sees projections of other dead prisoners who convince her to let the child go. As she allows the child to leave for the topmost level of the pit, she relieves herself from the guilt of being responsible for her boyfriend's son's death.
4 Unnamed Prisoner's Death By Heat
The Pit's Most Brutal Rule Becomes Evident
The prisoners in The Platform are not allowed to hoard food in their cells. They must feast on whatever they can only when the floating platform is on their level. As soon as the platform drifts further down, they must stop eating. In a scenario where they hold on to any food items after the platform leaves their level, their level will experience extreme temperatures that will eventually kill them. Perempuan and Zamiatin watch this first-hand when, during a showdown with a few Barbarians, the Loyalists on the floor above them end up dropping some food items on their level.
Movie | Rotten Tomatoes Critics Score | Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score |
The Platform | 81% | 73% |
The Platform 2 | 38% | 26% |
As the platform drops down, the woman from the level above desperately attempts to clear her level. However, since she broke the rule of not storing food, her level begins to experience the punishing heat. The temperature spikes rapidly and flame soon engulfs her clothes. This gives Perempuan and Zamiatin a horrifying picture of what will happen if they even try to hoard food on their level.
3 Zamiatin's Fiery Fall To The Bottom
Zamiatin Learns To Accept His Past
When Zamaitin initially interacts with Perempuan in The Platform 2's opening arc, he tries to establish himself as a formidable figure. However, as the movie progresses, it becomes evident he has been living a lie. Zamaitin's tough exterior eventually breaks when he and Perempuan end up in one of the lower levels of the prison where they get access to no food. Realizing that his entire life was a lie, Zamaitin chooses to have one final moment of truth. To ensure his death is not a lie, he takes accountability for his actions and sets himself on fire before jumping down the pit.
...the movie sequel also adds narrative significance to Zamaitin's demise by highlighting how his choice represents his final act of rebellion against his own imaginary narratives and lies that previously governed his life.
Zamaitin's death in The Platform 2 is both brutal and symbolic. It is brutal because the movie explicitly shows how the flames from his lighter engulf him before he falls to the bottom of the pit. At the same time, the movie sequel also adds narrative significance to Zamaitin's demise by highlighting how his choice represents his final act of rebellion against his own imaginary narratives and lies that previously governed his life.
2 Unnamed Law Offender's Platform Crucifixion
Dagin Babi's Army Shows No Mercy
As a viewer, it is hard not to agree that Dagin Babi and his army of Loyalists are doing the right thing by enforcing solidarity in the prison. However, the brutal truth about their communist beliefs becomes evident when they crucify a man to the bottom of the platform and send him down the pit. The viciousness with which the Loyalists treat the man gives a glimpse of what will eventually happen to Sahabat and Perempuan for breaking one of Dagin Babi's rules.
1 Sahabat's Brutal Platform Crucifixion
Perempuan Learns The Truth About Being A Loyalist
When Dagin Babi and his followers arrive at their level, Perempuan and Sahabat defend themselves by claiming that, even though they broke the law, they were well-intended. However, Dagin Babi refuses to forgive them because, according to his extreme ideology, following the law matters way more than understanding the intentions behind one's actions. To show how far he is willing to go to maintain social order in the pit, he orders his followers to chop Perempuan's arm by holding it underneath the platform as it moves from one level to another.
As a second-time offender, Sahabat faces an even harsher fate. The Loyalists ruthlessly crucify her to the bottom of the platform and send her down to be preyed upon by the ruthless prisoners in the lower levels of the pit. This highlights that, even though Dagin Babi holds himself on a higher moral ground than the Barbarians, he and his army of Loyalists are no less savage and selfish than the people they fight against in The Platform 2.
