While walking through another harrowing portrayal of a dystopian prison-like setting, The Platform 2 introduces new players while also marking the return of some characters from the first film. Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, The Platform is a Spanish thriller that premiered on Netflix with rave reviews and even rose in the ranks to become one of the highest-viewed non-English movies on the streaming platform. Considering its success, it is not surprising that it spawned a sequel that delves deeper into the philosophical and social commentary introduced by its predecessor.

Similar to the first film, The Platform 2 also unfolds in a "self-managing" tower where each floor accommodates two people. The primary driver of its narrative is the titular platform that goes down and sequentially carries hoards of food from one level to another. While the movie's setting and the violent action it generates are enough to keep viewers hooked, The Platform 2's story is primarily driven by its well-written characters, portrayed by talented actors. Some of these actors in the Netflix sequel are recognizable for their parts in The Platform while others are new additions to the story.

Hovik Keuchkerian as Zamiatin

Actor: Although Hovik Keuchkerian was born in Beirut, Lebanon, he was raised in Alpedrete, Spain, after he moved there with his family at the age of three. Before he dipped his feet into acting, Keuchkerian was a boxer and also earned the title of Spanish Heavyweight Champion twice. After retiring from the sport, he immersed himself in stand-up comedy, which paved the way for him to star in many movies and shows. He made his TV debut with Hispania, la leyenda in 2010 but only garnered attention for his acting talent when he played Pedro in 2013's Alacrán enamorado (Scorpion in Love).

Character: In The Platform 2's opening arc, Hovik Keuchkerian's character, Zamiatin, is introduced as a new prisoner in the central vertical cell. He finds himself sharing his cell with Perempuán during his first month. Like every new prisoner in the cell, he initially struggles to adapt to its machinations and even resists the existing rules established by the people in his neighboring cells. However, his early struggle pales compared to what he experiences as more time passes in the central pit.

As The Platform 2 progresses, Perempuán is not only forced to deal with the violence inside the vertical cells but also the demons of her past.

Actor: Born in London, Natalia Tena is fluent in both Spanish and English. She started her acting career by starring in About a Boy in 2002. Although she mostly played roles in stage adaptations like Gone to Earth and Nights at the Circus in the 2000s, her breakthrough came in 2007 when she got the opportunity to play the recurring role of Nymphadora Tonks in the Harry Potter movie series. Apart from being known for portraying Tonks, she also played Osha in Game of Thrones and starred in one of Black Mirror's best episodes, "White Christmas."
